The Diocese of Pueblo will conduct a 2^nd Collection on Aug. 1 & 2, 2026 for the benefit of the Catholic Foundation. (Envelopes are in the pews.). Just recently the Catholic Foundation awarded grants to 48 parishes, missions, schools and other Catholic organizations in our diocese. These grants are made possible by the generosity of donors like you. Supporting the Catholic Foundation 2^nd Collection supports faith formation and other worship programs in your own back yard. 100% of the funds received from this collection stay within the Diocese. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Next Sunday is Food Bank Sunday. Non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations may be left on the altar.

Praying to Love Beyond Boundaries

During his papacy, Pope Francis often spoke of going to the “peripheries.” By this he meant not only physically traveling to places that had not seen a pope in some time but also reaching out to people who feel excluded by society ( for example, migrants and refugees) or by the Church (for example, transgender people). Pope Francis was also encouraging all of us to love “beyond boundaries.”

What would it mean for us to love beyond boundaries? For one thing, it would mean trying to love people whom we don’t particularly like (or who don’t particularly like us). That’s a kind of “boundary.” That doesn’t mean that you have to like that person or approve of his or her behavior. It does mean that you try, as best you can, to love them.

It also means loving when you are tired or stressed or overwhelmed. This is loving beyond one of your own boundaries. It’s always tempting to be curt, snappish, short-tempered, or even mean when you are at a low ebb. But we always, no matter how tired we are, have the choice to be loving or to be selfish.

Finally, loving beyond our boundaries means loving people who live in places we may never visit – or have heard of. Do you care about the refugee in Sudan, the victim of violence in Myanmar or the war victim in Ukraine? Do you love them? If so, what will you do for them? Loving without boundaries also means putting that love into action.                                                                –James Martin, S.J.
